Peace be with you
Recently, in a conversation we were reflecting on Luke 6:1–11, a familiar synoptic story where Jesus heals a man’s withered hand under the watchful eyes of religious authorities, raising questions about transgressing Sabbath laws. So, I was still processing this conversation and thought it would be good to write something up about it to share today.
However, in what I hoped to potentially produce in writing this reflection was not easy. I spent hours exploring another angle—useful and enjoyable, but due to deadlines for posting not ready to share. What held my attention was Luke’s phrase kai egeneto—“it came to pass.”
Thankfully my focus on ‘it came to pass’ recalled Sarah’s laughter in Genesis from our past Sunday Lessons when God promised she would bear a son— and indeed “it came to pass.” In my own work, my frustration of not having enough time gave way to laughter, and somehow, I realized it too then came to pass. I will not be surprised that the work I did initiate will draw me back in and I might potentially complete at some point for sharing on page, but for now ‘it simply came to pass.’
What in your spiritual life might need laughter and joy so that it, too, can “come to pass,” opening you to where God is leading you?
Peace
